Sometimes I think this show is way overrated because of what it doesn't have, which is a whole lot of exploratory jamming. But my gut and my heart tell me this is the best show of 87 and one that I keep coming back to, ever since I heard it the first time while it was happening.

That "wrong" note in Morning Dew -- I have to think Jerry knew just what he was doing. I almost think he made a bet with someone, "Yeah, I can play an Eb in Morning Dew all the way at the top of the scale, and everyone will love it." If you check out the video of this, his head is pointed right at the neck of his guitar, and he is completely focused. He's playing exactly the notes he wants -- maybe his finger slipped, from being sweaty or whatever the reason, but he just went for it. All I knew is it literally threw me back into my chair, Dead center, first level. Technically, this is not the best performance, but the sheer intensity is unmatched on any other from this time period -- maybe 5/8/77 or 6/18/74 or 9/21/72 or something gets there.

The sound is just pristine by the way. The only negative I found is a few quick pauses, discontinuities that throw off the rhythm in spots. Fortunately, it doesn't during the Dew.

5+ stars for the Dew, 4 for everything else, I gotta go with a 5. If I reviewed a different version and gave it a lower rating, my bad.

Is it just me or is this the best, most completely over the top, version of Morning Dew ever?

I mean, listen. It was so intense, I think Jerry lost a kidney (yeah, that is a weird comment, but you know what I'm sayin'). This version may be, perhaps, better than sex. :)
